Surface properties of biomaterials are crucial in interactions with cells or proteins, which determine their biocompatibility. Our recent study published in Langmuir journal indicates that newly developed copolymers of poly(butylene succinate-butylene dilinoleate)(PBS-DLS) are characterized by excellent biocompatibility assessed on the basis of interactions of biomaterial surfaces with fibrinogen and fibronectin - key components of the provisional matrix.
Thanks to the application of a modern apparatus capable of producing low-temperature plasma, Mrs Nina Kantor-Malujdy, a graduate student of Dr. Piotr Sobolewski, developed an effective method to purify the surface of slides on which she could apply thin (nanometric) layers of new biomaterial and thus prepare it for studies of interactions with cells.
