On January 28, 2024, in the beautiful premises of the restored Polish Theater in Szczecin, a gala ceremony was held to summarize the Regional Operational Program of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship 2014 - 2020.
Award in the category “Best research project (university project)” went to the Faculty of Technology and Chemical Engineering for the project entitled. ”Testing under real conditions of innovative protective masks (NanoBioCell) made of bionanocellulose,“ headed by Prof. Miroslawa El Fray.
The project received funding under the “Responsible Proto_lab” project and was carried out in cooperation between two units of our university: The Department of Polymer and Biomaterials Science, headed by Prof. El Fray, and the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Animal Husbandry, headed by Prof. Karol Fijalkowski.
It was the combination of the knowledge and passion of scientists from two different fields and disciplines that contributed first to the development of biodegradable, antimicrobial and antiviral filters based on bacterial bionanocellulose for use in protective masks, and then to the testing by medical personnel of two Szczecin hospitals of masks containing these filters and made entirely of biodegradable materials.
As emphasized by the authorities of the Marshal's Office, the awards presented to the beneficiaries of the Regional Operational Program of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship 2014-2020, were acknowledgement of the beneficiaries' commitment, activity and pro-development attitude.
